Today the University of South Carolina Student Government announced a new partnership with Uber.

The partnership will provide students a 25% discount on rides from the Five Points area. The rides will begin Thursday, September 8 at 10 p.m. and end October 1, or until funding expires.

In order to receive the discount, students must register with the Uber app using their university email address. The student will then receive a code to use for the discount. The discount will only be applied to the ride from Five Points to residential areas. The areas that the discount will service are as follows.

The ride must originate within this highlighted area:

And must end within this highlighted zone:

"Safety of students late night is a priority for student government", said Student Body President, Michael Parks.

Student Body Treasurer Stinson Rogers proposed this partnership during his campaign for his position last spring. Parks thanked Rogers for his dedication to this effort during this past summer.

The Student Government office encourages all students to take advantage of this discount during this pilot period. There will be negotiations for a longer contract depending on the success of the pilot.

This Uber discount will replace the Carolina Cab service that previously ran in Five Points.

Here is a quick guide to taking advantage of this discount:

1. Download the Uber app.

2. Register with you university email.

3. Use the code "USCSAFE16" that is provided.

4. After a night of fun at Five Points, request the Uber near the Five Points area.

5. Get dropped off in the highlighted area shown above.

6. Arrive home safely.
